Frequently Asked Questions
To save your time (and ours), we have included the answers to a few frequently asked questions in this section. If your question does not appear below, please proceed to the next section.
When does the ISB Debate Society usually meet?
The answer to this question depends on the time of year. To prevent complicating this answer, we suggest that you sign up to our mailing list to receive this information on a weekly basis.
Will participating in debate help me to fulfil CAS requirements?
Yes. Debate falls under the 'creativity' section of CAS, so if you do not already participate in anything that falls under this category, joining debate will help you to fulfil your CAS requirements.
Does everybody in debate get selected for the IASAS team?
Sadly, no. While we would love it if everybody could make the IASAS team, it sadly only has space for eight people. This includes:
3 Speakers on Team A
3 Speakers on Team B
1-2 Researchers
It's worth a try though!
Do I have to attend sessions in full?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: While we would prefer that you attend sessions from start to end, we understand that this is not always possible. As such, partial participation (arriving late or leaving early) is allowed. Nonetheless, those intending to be selected for the team should note that this attendance information is recorded and will play a role in the team selection process.
